We analysed the prices of basic pancake ingredients across six major UK supermarkets: Aldi, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, and Waitrose. The classic sugar-and-lemon pancake recipe requires:

Tesco took the top spot, with the total cost of these ingredients coming in at just £7.41. Following closely behind were Morrisons and Aldi, both at £7.51. Meanwhile, Waitrose was the most expensive, with a total price of £8.50 – a difference of £1.09 compared to Tesco.

Pancake ingredient prices have risen by 8% in a year
If your Pancake Day shopping seems a little pricier this year, you’re not imagining things. Our research found that the average cost of pancake ingredients has risen by 8% in the last 12 months.
Among the supermarkets, Asda saw the biggest price increase, with costs rising by £1.02 compared to 2024. Surprisingly, Waitrose was the only supermarket to see a price decrease, dropping by £0.25.
